Sophie Maes

Sophie is drawn to transportation planning because of the central role it plays in shaping social, economic, and environmental outcomes. She believes in the importance of prioritizing both technical analysis and community-based insights in the planning processes.

Sophie (she/her) is a transportation planner with a passion for public transit and multimodal solutions that advance equity, improve quality of life, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. As an undergraduate student, her interest in transportation planning was shaped by her experiences living in New York City, studying in Buenos Aires, and researching participatory design strategies in Madrid. While pursuing a Master of City Planning at the University of Pennsylvania, Sophie deepened her understanding of transportation planning through internships with the City of Philadelphia and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. She specializes in mapmaking, data analysis, design, and stakeholder engagement. At Foursquare ITP, Sophie is excited to apply her skill set to a variety of transportation projects and grow alongside a collaborative team of planners.
