This project evaluated existing pedestrian access to the Braddock Road Metrorail Station and a potential second station entrance and grade-separated pedestrian crossing. WMATA sought to add a second station entrance to the Braddock Road Metrorail Station with a pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks to the neighborhood on the west side of the station. They needed to evaluate overall pedestrian access to the station and three different potential locations for the second entrance and pedestrian bridge.
Foursquare ITP evaluated existing pedestrian access to the Braddock Road Metrorail Station and a potential second station entrance and grade-separated pedestrian crossing. We developed a detailed profile of the station that included ridership, mode of access, existing bike and pedestrian conditions, and existing walk times to the station. We then evaluated second entrance and pedestrian crossing alternatives and produced order-of-magnitude estimates for use of each alternative.
This analysis provided a final recommendation to WMATA on the exact location of the preferred second station entrance and pedestrian bridge to maximize demand. The final recommendation maximized access to the most population and would result in the highest projected use of the second entrance and pedestrian bridge.
