Washington, DC— Aug. 20 — Mass Transit magazine, the North American public transportation industry’s premier news source, unveiled its 2024 Class of 40 Under 40 honorees on Aug. 20, 2024. On that list, you’ll find two of Foursquare ITP’s best and brightest in the industry.
Congratulations to Alanna McKeeman, AICP, and Andrew Zalewski, AICP, for both earning the prestigious award in the 16th year of the program.
More than 120 nominations this year were rated on four criteria, including job commitment, industry involvement, and contribution, achievement in his or her position, and innovation in his or her field. We couldn’t be prouder to have such innovative leaders on our team and to have them recognized as such.
Since joining Foursquare ITP as a senior transportation planner in 2017, Alanna has quickly progressed to her current role as vice president and senior project manager. In addition, she serves as a member of the executive leadership team and oversees the company business in the Midwest region of the US. Alanna’s focus on staff engagement has had a critical impact on the company’s designation as a Great Place to Work, and its staff engagement rate is near 90%. Up until July 2024, Alanna led Foursquare ITP’s microtransit and new mobility service area, which has grown into a robust practice of microtransit planning for regions of varying sizes. For this service area, she has provided strategic direction, business development, project management, and contributed to the creation of an operator-neutral planning and ridership tool. Her article, Four Steps for Creating a Successful On-Demand Microtransit Service, was published in Mass Transit in 2023.
Alanna is an active member of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS). She has presented at the WTS International conference and serves as the scholarship and fundraising committee chair for the WTS DC chapter. Alanna is certified under the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning and a bachelor’s in economics.
Andrew is close to being one of the original Foursquare ITP employees. He joined the company in 2011 as a transportation planner right out of graduate school and has played many roles, allowing him to expand his wealth of knowledge and experience and gradually increase his responsibilities. He has been integral in growing the company from the five employees it was when he joined to its current 65+. He helped launch Foursquare ITP’s original Boston office in 2016 and now oversees Foursquare ITP’s Philadelphia office, where he runs the office and helps mentor over a dozen staff members. Andrew is also the company’s practice lead for strategic and financial planning. Andrew’s experience in financial planning, strategic planning, and organizational development has helped transit agencies better prioritize their capital investments, strategize and set goals, and set their organizations up for new and broader responsibilities. Through his specialization in micromobility planning, Andrew’s work has helped raise over $40 million for bikeshare systems and active transportation infrastructure. He helped lead the country’s first bikeshare expansion plan for Arlington County, Virginia, in 2012 and has since led similar plans for cities as varied as Washington, DC; Austin, Texas; and Boston, Massachusetts. Andrew has led work in progressing the state-of-the-practice in on-board origin-destination studies, having served as the principal investigator on TCRP Synthesis 138 Transit Rider Origin-Destination Survey Methods and Technologies and had led the analysis, mapping, and results dashboards for numerous transit agency origin-destination surveys, including MTA Maryland, Jacksonville Transportation Authority, and NFTA in Buffalo, New York.
